Institutional Development
The Grevy’s Zebra Trust was established in January 2007 to address the urgent need to conserve Grevy’s zebra (Equus grevyi) in the community rangelands of Ethiopia and Kenya. It is an independent wildlife conservation Trust registered in Kenya.
Governance
The Grevy’s Zebra Trust is governed by a Board of Trustees with representation from Kenya, Ethiopia and the United States. In addition, the Trust has an Advisory Committee to give technical guidance, including Dr Patricia Moehlman (IUCN, Equid Specialist Group), Dr Daniel Rubenstein (Princeton University), Dr Stuart Williams (Flora & Fauna International), and Dr Tim Woodfine (Marwell Conservation).
The Management Team
The Executive Director Belinda Low, divides her time between Nairobi and the field. The Trust has a field office in Kalama Conservancy, Samburu, where the field management team operates from. Under their supervision is a large team of field staff employed from local communities in the capacity of Grevy’s Zebra Scouts & Ambassadors.
Ethiopia
In Ethiopia, the Grevy’s Zebra Trust works in partnership with the Wildlife Conservation and Environmental Development Association of Ethiopia (WildCODE). The Director of WildCODE is responsible for the coordination of Grevy’s zebra conservation activities carried out under the auspices of WildCODE with technical and financial support from the Grevy’s Zebra Trust.
